Liquid Filter Bags
Since 1994, mmp Filter has been manufacturing high-performance liquid filter bags for efficient solid-liquid separation. As a leading filter bag manufacturer, we provide standard and custom industrial bag filter systems designed for demanding applications across industries
What is a Bag Filter and How Does it Work?
A bag filter is an industrial filtration device designed to remove solid particles from liquids by passing an adulterated substance through an absorptive filter medium. A filter bag works on depth or surface filtration principles, capturing contaminants while allowing clean liquid to flow out of the housing. These liquid filter bags are installed inside a filter vessel supported by a perforated basket to maintain structure during operation. In systems that require a high flow of fluid and a uniform hold on particles, filter bags are extremely effective. In bag filtering applications for liquids such as water, chemicals, oils, and coolants, they ensure that the equipment is protected while maintaining a stable operating condition.
- A filter bag will either filter out contaminants from the product being processed on the outside surface of the bag (as in a mesh filter-type application) or within the body of the felt material, depending on the required filtration level and micron rating used for the bag.
- The majority of filtration systems function off an inside-out flow pattern, which allows for contaminants to be trapped inside the filter bag while the clean filtrate leaves the bag.
- These types of filtration systems can also handle high viscosity liquids, highly aggressive chemical solutions, or high levels of contamination without clogging up very quickly.
- Available as micron filter bags, they range from coarse to fine filtration levels for various industrial applications.
- They protect pumps, membranes, spray nozzles, heat exchangers, and other downstream equipment from particulate damage.
- Compared to cartridge systems, bag filtration is more economical for high-volume liquid processing.

Key Features of the mmp Filter Bag
Filter bags are specifically designed to deliver consistent filtration performance under industrial conditions without compromising structural integrity. The high-performance media and advanced production methods ensure these bags will continue to function effectively for long periods and reliably capture any contaminants present in the filtered fluid. All bags are tested before use to ensure that they will retain particles down to the specified micron size and that there is no leakage or bypass when sealed properly. The bags can be used with a variety of fluids, including water, oil, chemicals, and process fluids. They are built to withstand the rigors of demanding applications.
High Dirt-Holding Capacity
The high dirt-holding capacity of the liquid filter bags allows for a large volume of contaminants to be captured by the bag before needing to be replaced, resulting in fewer operational interruptions.
Low Pressure Drop
The low-pressure drop design of the bags allows for increased fluid flow through the bag, which will increase the overall energy efficiency of the system and performance.
Dust Collector Bags
The bags feature a durable seam construction that can be either stitched or fully welded, greatly reducing the chances of leakage or bypassing.
Safe for Sensitive Processes
For sensitive pharmaceutical and food-grade applications, silicone-free construction is available.
High performance
Sealing ring configurations are also available for all bag styles to ensure compatibility with all types of housing systems and to prevent leaks or bypassing.
Bag Filters for Liquid Filtration
The use of liquid filter bags is simple to install and replace, thus reducing the time and labor costs associated with maintenance.
Types of Bag Filters Offered by mmp
Industrial applications require different filter characteristics based on the type of fluid, type and amount of contamination present in the fluid, the temperature of the fluid, and/or exposure to chemicals. mmp manufactures an extensive selection of industrial filter bags that can accommodate these different conditions. Each of our bag filtration products is engineered to provide optimum quality and durability as well as meet regulatory requirements

Liquid Filter Bags by Micron Rating
One of the considerations for engineers & purchasing teams in selecting Liquid Filter Bags is micron rating. A micron is a millionth of a meter and is the size of particle that a Filter bag can trap. The selected rating will depend on what the liquid type is, how much contamination is present, and how much clarity will be needed.
While a lower micron rating results in finer filtration, the filter will operate at different levels of performance based on the media’s construction and the flow conditions present. Understanding these parameters will allow you to generate dependable filter bag systems throughout their life cycle.
Nominal vs. Absolute Rating
Nominal-rated filters will trap a percentage of the given size particles; however, absolute-rated filters will provide a more accurate representation of the retention of given size particles.
Contact UsMicron Rating :
-
1-5 micron filters
Used in applications where small particle extraction is required, such as polishing stages, equipment that requires protection from large particulates, etc.
-
10-25 micron filters
The filters are good for medium-level filtration of process liquids, where visible particles need to be controlled without restricting flow.
-
50-100 micron filters
The filters are typically associated with the removal of sediment and pre-filtration on bag-filtered water, coolants, and general liquid processing systems.
-
150-200 micron filters
The filters are ideal for impacting separating out larger debris from the liquid source.
Liquid Filter Bags by Size (Standard Industry Sizing)
Equivalent to micron selection, the size of the filter bag is critical for achieving proper sealing, flow rate stability, and effective operation. The industry standard for pleated filter bags is based on sizes ranging from Size 1 through Size 6; each of which is made to correspond to a different housing dimension. If the incorrect size is used, the bag may not properly seal against the housing, may bypass, leak, and/or operate inefficiently, which is why it is so necessary to ensure the industrial bag filter systems are matched with the correct bag sizes.
- Custom Sizes: mmp can manufacture any length or diameter of industrial filter bag if the application requires a specific dimension.
- Application-Based Selection: If there is uncertainty about the sizing, reviewing the technical specifications will provide the best chance of obtaining the right fit and the best performance from the bag.
Size 1
This is usually a moderate flow size and is made with shorter bag lengths to meet minimum throughput requirements.
Size 2
This is a larger, longer style bag to support higher flow rates and longer service intervals.
Sizes 3 and 4
These sizes are for specialty purposes and are generally used in specific industries that have unusual housing configurations.
Benefits of Bag Filters
Bag filter systems are used extensively in industry because they are easy to use and effective. They’re easy to use on many different liquids and are generally less expensive than using cartridges if you are filtering large quantities of a liquid.
Compared to cartridge filters, liquid filter bags usually will hold more dirt before they have to be changed out, making them easier to maintain over time. If the liquid filters are chosen correctly, they will keep processes running and protect costly machinery and equipment.
- Customizable configurations: Bag filter systems can be fabricated to fit a specific process by choosing the right micron rating, type of filtration media, and size of filter bag needed.
- High dirt holding capacity: A well-designed bag filter will hold enough contaminants before requiring replacement, which helps to improve the amount of time during which the filter system is in operation.
- Operational Efficiency: The low pressure differential across the bag itself will help to keep system performance consistent.
- Versatility: There are a variety of different types of materials that are available. The bag filters may be made from polypropylene, polyester, nylon, or PTFE material.
- Cost Control: In most cases, bag filter systems will be less expensive to operate than cartridge-based filter systems when processing large quantities of liquids.
Applications of Filter Bags
Air filter bags can be utilized wherever liquid clarity, protection of equipment, and consistency of processes matter. Because of their versatility in media and micron ratings, industrial filter bags can be used in many different industries. Liquid Filter Bags help to ensure that your operation remains consistent and efficient – from clean room applications to heavy industrial processing environments.
