Purification by Carbon is a proven, state of art modern technology for a wide range
of purification needs. The beneficial behaviour of the carbonized granules is its
capacity of “adsorption”. This is a phenomenon by which contaminants tend to adhere
to the surface of the granule. The sheer size of the surface of the activated carbon
makes it so effective. The “active surface area” is typically 500 to 1500 m2/gm.
The Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) of particle size 0.5 to 4mm are popularly used
in processes running continuously – for instance GAC packed in columns inside a
FRP tank. In R.O.technology, GAC is used to remove chlorine from the water that
is intolerable to the R.O.Membrane. Moreover carbon polishing improves the taste
of the water.
